Scope and Content Warehouse, East Silvermills Lane, Edinburgh This shows a building on the west side of West Silvermills Lane, looking north towards Henderson Row. This building is marked as 'warehouse' on the 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map of 1952, but was presumably built as a factory of some kind, probably in the early 20th century. This building was badly damaged by fire in the late 1980s, after lying empty for several years, and was demolished soon afterwards. The part of Edinburgh known as Silvermills was until the 1980s a network of narrow lanes, lined by buildings dating from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. These buildings had had a number of uses, difficult to trace, as the Edinburgh Post Office Directories do not include street numbers for industrial buildings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
