Scope and Content Cornton Foundry, Cornton Road, Bridge of Allan, Stirling This shows the small moulding shop, used for making light castings. There is no crane in this shop, so a hand-held ladle (handshank) will be used to fill these moulds after the moulds in the large shop to the right have all been poured. In 1971 this foundry was still owned by a Mr Davie, who ran it with two employees, who moulded for a fortnight, then poured all the moulds at once. Most of the output was sold to Perth County Council and to Stirling Town Council. The foundry has since closed and been demolished. This foundry was built in 1940-2 by James Davie & Sons, iron founders and engineers, who had a foundry in the centre of Stirling where they made architectural castings and agricultural implements. The new foundry was built to make castings for the war effort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
