Scope and Content Bonnington Bridge Paper Mills, Newhaven Road, Edinburgh This shows the Newhaven Road frontage of the complex from the south-west. The nearer block was still used by the Paper Shavings Co Ltd, with the paper mill frontage beyond. Paper shavings were used in packaging, and were probably made from scrap paper from the mills. The Bonnington Bridge Paper Mills covered a large area behind these frontages. They were much reduced in scale by 1971. The Paper Shavings Co Ltd was probably a subsidiary company of James Inglis & Co. This paper mill was founded in the late 19th century, using water from the Water of Leith. It was probably built to use esparto grass and wood pulp imported through the port of Leith. The owners were James Inglis & Co. By 1937 the Paper Shavings Co Ltd were established on an adjacent site.
