Scope and Content Denny Iron Works, Glasgow Road, Denny, Falkirk This shows a sand mixer in the moulding shop. This machine, has a revolving pan and a roller running on it. It is used for mixing sharp sand, coal dust and a little water to make greensand, and to mix sand and sodium silicate to make a mixture for carbon dioxide moulding. This firm was primarily a maker of agricultural machinery, especially ploughs and Cambridge rollers, and also made iron and steel castings as engineering components, for, among others, J & T Boyd, textile machinery makers, Glasgow. The iron founding industry was a speciality of the south-east corner of Stirlingshire, with the towns of Larbert, Denny, Falkirk and Bonnybridge all having several firms engaged in this business. The Denny Iron Works was founded in 1870, and belonged to Cruikshank & Co Ltd. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
