Copy of C 60415

Scope and Content Gardens and Sundial, Grounds, Keithick House, Perth & Kinross This shows the plaque with the coat-of-arms for the Woods of Largo and Keithick on the sundial beside the house. The arms are quartered with cross-hatchings and trees with a motto below and a ship above. Part of the cube in the centre of the shaft is at each side of the plaque. The sundial is a copy of one at Stobhall Castle, Perth & Kinross. The shadow of the metal gnomons (metal blades which cast shadows onto the dial) on the cube would indicate the time on the dials which were engraved with lines that point to Roman numerals which represent the hours of the day. The main dial-making period was from the 1620s to the 1730s which is perhaps when the Stobhall Castle dial was made but it is not known when this copy was manufactured. Keithick House was designed by David Whyte and built for W E Collinswood between 1818 and 1823. David Bryce (1803-76) changed the porch and offices in 1839, and Maclaren, Soutar & Salmond made further alterations in 1926. Morant painted an Adam Revival decorative scheme in the drawing room.
