Scope and Content Drawing room, Keithick House, Perth & Kinross, from east This shows the drawing room which has an Adam Revival decorative scheme by Morant. The marble chimneypiece has a central panel of flowers spilling out from a basket with plaques at each side. The large overmantel mirror is surmounted by a garland of leaves and is flanked by a pair of symmetrical panels which are painted with leaves and other decoration radiating from a base held by an angel. The gilded cornice of leaves and roses, the ceiling and other decorative panels are also visible. The drawing room was one of the main entertaining rooms which were located on the ground floor. In 1911 this room was decorated in a style which harked back to Victorian times. There were decorative cabinets around the walls which were hung with sentimental pictures possibly showing children of the family. At each side of the overmantel mirror there was a series of small shelves which supported a large collection of Oriental china and porcelain. The settee with the pink cover shown in the photograph was in this room at this date but covered in a different material. Keithick House was designed by David Whyte and built for W E Collinswood between 1818 and 1823. David Bryce (1803-76) changed the porch and offices in 1839, and Maclaren, Soutar & Salmond made further alterations in 1926. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
