Scope and Content Entrance hall, Keithick House, Perth & Kinross This shows the green-painted entrance hall which has a large archway and a sweeping staircase with cast-iron uprights and a timber handrail. The uprights with the diamond-shaped centre section are alternated with uprights with a pineapple-shaped centre. Part of a white-painted cornice is seen above the archway, which is modelled with garlands and griffins. The main entrance hall to a country house was usually large and furnished with family paintings which would impress visitors with the wealth, heritage and standing of the family. In 1911 this room was decorated in a style which harked back to Victorian times. The large table shown supported several objects which included a large plant and a 'Martinware' grotesque bird tobacco jar. Underneath the table there was a pair of curling stones. Keithick House was designed by David Whyte and built for W E Collinswood between 1818 and 1823. David Bryce (1803-76) changed the porch and offices in 1839, and Maclaren, Soutar & Salmond made further alterations in 1926. Morant painted an Adam Revival decorative scheme in the drawing room.
