Scope and Content Courtyard, Keithick House, Perth & Kinross, from east This shows the service courtyard with part of the arched entrance on the right and the main house on the left. The wooden courtyard gates are surmounted by a bar with metal spikes and are locked by a slender metal rod which can be jammed into a block on the ground. The sloping roof is supported on columns and the small single-storeyed building in the centre is a dairy. In front of this building there is a large former water trough which has been converted into a plant holder. The servants would enter the courtyard by the arched entrance which was out of sight from the family and guests in the main house. Milk produced in the 'home farm' would have been made into dairy produce in the dairy. The cook would have used the dairy products as ingredients in meals for the family, their guests and the servants. Keithick House was designed by David Whyte and built for W E Collinswood between 1818 and 1823. David Bryce (1803-76) changed the porch and offices in 1839, and Maclaren, Soutar & Salmond made further alterations in 1926. Morant painted an Adam Revival decorative scheme in the drawing room.
