Scope and Content Tea warehouse, Nos 55-7 Couper Street, Edinburgh This shows the Coburg Street frontage of the building, with part of the Couper Street façade to the right. Note the Royal Warrant plaque above the cart entry. This part of the works was used for storing, blending and packaging the firm's tea and coffee. Like many Scottish firms Melroses succumbed to the development of mass-marketed tea and coffee. This warehouse has been converted into flats, with little alteration to its external appearance. This warehouse was built in 1900, probably for Melroses Ltd, tea and coffee merchants, who occupied it in 1970. Melroses had an extensive trade with retail grocers, and in 1945 had three of their own shops in Edinburgh. This warehouse was their headquarters. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
