Scope and Content Carntyne Dyewood Mills, No 567 Shettleston Road, Glasgow This shows the passage between the two main ranges. The one on the left, with its concrete lintels, is probably the 1911 addition, which was designed by Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh. The block on the right, the end bay of which has been rebuilt, is probably the 1886 range. By 1970 this works was owned by the British Dyewood Co Ltd, and was still in production. In the 1950s this works processed most of the world's output of logwood, and also made fustic, a yellow dye for leather and wood, and tannic acid and tannin. The works has now closed and has been demolished. This works was founded in about 1883 by McArthur, Scott & Co, drysalters, dyewood and extract manufacturers, and additions were made in 1886 and 1911. The firm made extracts from imported exotic woods for use in dyeing and calico-printing, and also for tanning. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
