Scope and Content Stables, Nos 21-5 Carlton Court, Glasgow This shows the interior of the stables with the front, south range, showing part of the horse gallery, and second floor and attic, served by a covered hoist back and front, which were used for storing hay and oats to feed the horses. This was a good, unaltered example of a type of building much favoured in late 19th-century Glasgow. Because horse-hauled lorries were slow, many of them were needed. This building was converted to offices by the Clyde Shipping Co in the 1980s, with the loss of this interior. These stables were built in about 1895 for the Clyde Shipping Co to house lorries, and the horses to draw them, which were used in connection with the company's steamship services. The stables are situated behind the company's offices in Carlton Place. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
