Scope and Content Tailoring Workshops, No 42 Spean Street, Glasgow This shows the south-east end of the main block from the west after it had been taken over by the South of Scotland Electricity Board as their central offices. The panels below the small windows retain the style of decoration which was originally applied to the whole building. This factory was American-inspired, with its flat roof and steel frame. It was set in extensive grounds, partly laid out as a landscape, and partly as recreation grounds. New building and car parks have obscured much of the original intention. The complex is now owned by Scottish Power. This factory was built in 1913-1922 for Wallace, Scott & Co, who made rainwear with the brand name 'Dexter'. The building was designed by Sir J J Burnet, and has extensive glazing to suit its purpose. When completed it had a steamer-like chimney on top of the main block.
