Scope and Content Tannadice Park, Tannadice Street, Dundee, from south-east In 1909, the Irish community in Dundee combined to form a football club following the demise of Dundee Harp three years earlier. They initially called themselves Dundee Hibernian, now Dundee United Football Club, and took over Clepington Park, later named Tannadice Park. The stadium has undergone various alterations over the decades, the most recent being under the auspices of architects, James Paul Associates, Dundee, who have made major alterations in the 1990s. This interior view of the stadium from the south-east is taken from inside the L-shaped, cantilevered stand which, at the time when it was built in the 1960s, was the third of its type in the UK after Scunthorpe and Sheffield Wednesday. Developments in the 1960s cost around £250,000 and included enlarging the North Terrace, to the right in this picture, and creating an overall capacity of 28,500. The cost of the development in 1992 was £2.1m. The ground's capacity, all-seated, is now 14,209. Clepington Park was the home of Dundee Wanderers before Dundee United took over the ground. The Club's first game on 18 August 1909 was a friendly against Hibernian, from Edinburgh, in front of a sizeable 7,000 crowd and ended in a 1-1 draw. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
