Scope and Content Interior of stable, Sibster Mains Farm, Highland Sibster Mains Farm has a large steading arranged around a square courtyard, dating variously from the late 18th century to the mid- to late 19th century and into the 20th century. It is thus a fine example of agricultural development through three centuries and is particularly notable for its 18th-century kiln barn. This is the interior of the east end of the stable showing the large slabs of Caithness flagstone paving the floor, and three enormous slabs forming a partition wall. There are some traditional pitch forks and spades hanging up in front of this partition. Caithness has a wealth of geological sites including a number of locations where fossil fish were first recorded. The fish date back about 380 million years ago in the Devonian geological period of geological time when the land destined to eventually become Scotland lay about 20º S of the equator and enjoyed a generally warm and dry climate.
