Scope and Content Main building from east, Clynelish Distillery, Brora, Highland Clynelish Distillery was built 1967-8, and takes its name from a much older adjacent distillery built in 1819 (which later became known as Brora Distillery). The modern distillery is three times the size of its older namesake, having three pairs of stills producing whisky for inclusion in the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Blend. This shows the modern still house (centre) with its large windows allowing the viewer to see the stills within. These are divided by white glazing bars and rows of pale blue panelling which emphasise the length of the building. The walls of the main and adjacent blocks are constructed from brick with cream harling. The tall metal chimney marks the site of the boiler house. The distillery draws its water supply from the Clynemilton Burn which runs through land in which gold was discovered in the 1880s. The distillery is one of the most northerly in Scotland, and its whisky is said to closely match the style of those produced in the Island regions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
