Scope and Content Oil tanks and chimney from south, Clynelish Distillery, Brora, Highland Clynelish Distillery was built 1967-8, and takes its name from a much older adjacent distillery built in 1819 (which later became known as Brora Distillery). The modern distillery is three times the size of its older namesake, having three pairs of stills producing whisky for inclusion in the Johnnie Walker Gold Label Blend. This shows the rear of the distillery with the oil tanks which store fuel for the boiler, and the boiler house chimney. The stills within the main building are heated by steam from the oil-fired boiler. The walls of this modern distillery are harled and painted cream, or are built from sheets of corrugated metal (right). The distillery draws its water supply from the Clynemilton Burn which runs through land in which gold was discovered in the 1880s. The distillery is one of the most northerly in Scotland, and its whisky is said to closely match the style of those produced in the Island regions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
