Scope and Content Warehouse, Nos 50-59 Timber Bush, Leith, Edinburgh Timber Bush is a corruption of timber bourse, the timber market of Leith, where imported timber was bought and sold. It became a warehouse quarter in the early and mid-19th century, as trade through Leith expanded, with a network of narrow streets. This shows one (Nos 50-51) of a terrace of warehouses on the south side of Timber Bush, behind the street frontage buildings on the north side of Bernard Street. This was in 1970 a bonded warehouse belonging to McDonald & Muir Ltd, Scotch whisky distillers. This warehouse was probably built as a bonded warehouse in the late 19th century, judging by the snecked rubble masonry, large widows designed to be barred, and generously proportioned hoist doors. It has been converted into offices since 1970. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
