Scope and Content Warehouses, Nos 29-39 Mitchell Street, Leith, Edinburgh Mitchell Street runs east from Constitution Street, and contained some of Leith's largest warehouses, built in connection with the port. These warehouses were at the east end of the south side of the street. This shows the warehouses (Nos 32-39) from the north-west. The nearer one was probably built in the mid 19th century, and the office on the right was added in the late 19th century. The block at the far end is probably of late 19th century date. 'Traditional' warehouses as seen in this view were already more or less obsolete by 1970, and the storing of large volumes of spirits in urban areas was being phased out because of the risk of fire.
