Scope and Content Transit Sheds, Victoria Dock, Dundee Harbour, Dundee Victoria Dock and the adjacent Camperdown Dock were constructed in 1863-75 to serve Dundee's growing trade in jute, flax and general cargo. Both were equipped with single-storey transit sheds on their north quays, and Victoria Dock had in addition a five-storey warehouse at its north-east corner. This shows the transit sheds on the north quay of Victoria Dock, looking north west, The sheds are wider than those at Camperdown Dock, and there is no rail track along the quay in front of the sheds. Note the fire walls above the roof ridge. The Victoria and Camperdown docks had declined considerably in importance by 1969, and the Victoria Dock has since closed to commercial traffic. It now houses HMS 'Unicorn', a wooden warship of 1815. These transit sheds are still in existence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
