Scope and Content Warehouse (Tube), Nos 45-65 Oxford Street, Glasgow This warehouse was built in 1882 for James Wilson, iron tube manufacturer, of the Govan Tube Works in Helen Street, Govan. By 1902 is was occupied by Kelso and Co, opticians, electricians and model makers. This firm specialised in making ship models, ship electrical work, and scientific apparatus. This shows the building from the north-west. As with many of the warehouses built in or near the city centre in the 1870s and 80s it was constructed with shop units on the ground floor. In 1966 is was used as a warehouse for surplus army and navy equipment. This building, and indeed the whole street, was swept away in the early 1970s as part of the comprehensive redevelopment of the Gorbals. Models made by Kelso can be seen in the Glasgow Transport Museum in the Kelvin Hall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
