Scope and Content Note on reverse of postcard: 'Upper Cranston (1765) demolished. This house stood near the farm of Remote. Upper Cranston was also known as New Cranston. Both names have dropped out of currency. Sir James Dalrymple of Upper Cranston and Cousland, 4th Bt, married Elizabeth Hamilton MacGill, the heiress of Nether Cranston (Oxenfoord) in 1760. She succeeded to her estate in 1779. Thus the two Cranstons were united in the hands of one family'.
