Scope and Content Hall, Carronvale House, Larbert, Falkirk Carronvale House, dating from the 18th century, was extensively remodelled in 1897 by Sir John Burnet & Son for George Sherriff when he inherited the house from his father. The hall was photographed c.1900 by Harry Bedford Lemere. This magnificent stair hall, panelled in mahogany, has a screen carved with Renaissance detail (right) leading from the main entrance. The staircase, which rises directly opposite the entrance, has richly detailed newel posts and wine-glass balusters. In 1819 the Carronvale estate was bought by Duncan Robertson who added two wings to the original house, and lined the rooms with mahogany grown on his Jamaican estate. When Sherriff altered the house in 1897, he preserved much of the internal structure. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
