Scope and Content View of north-west bathroom, Brantwoode, No 4 Munro Drive West, Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute Brantwoode, an L-plan, asymmetrical villa was built in 1895 to designs by architect William Leiper (1839-1916). The two-storeyed house is built from red sandstone with red tile-hangings, mock half-timbering and leaded windows. The interior layout includes an inter-connecting library, living hall and dining room. This bathroom was converted from a bedroom in the 1930s. It is decorated with pale glass 'Vitrolite' tiles, separated by darker bands and includes an angular mirror over the sink fitted with toothbrush holders, and another stylish Art Deco mirror (left) featuring a female figure holding a hoop. This bathroom would have been the height of fashion in the 1930s combining modern materials like the Vitrolite glass tiles and the Art Deco mirror. The style typically created rooms with modern, angular, clean lines, free from elaborate decoration. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
