Scope and Content View from east of drawing room in Savoy Park, No 3 Savoy Park, Ayr, South Ayrshire Savoy Park was built in 1893 and was designed as the home of architect James A Morris (1857-1942). It is a two-storeyed, Arts and Crafts-style villa built of red Mauchline stone with asymmetrical features, perhaps inspired by traditional Scottish vernacular architecture. This shows the fireplace, decorated with 18th-century-style relief decoration. It is surmounted by two piers which have panelled shelving between. The bay window is fitted with similar shelving above it, and exposed beams are a feature of the ceiling. The room is filled with the lavish array of decorative objects so beloved in the 19th-century home. After formal dinners, the ladies would first retire, or 'withdraw' to the drawing room for music and socialising, and the gentlemen would join them after they had finished their port and cigars in the dining room. The room would be impressively furnished to reflect the style and taste of its owner. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
