Scope and Content View of decorative panels of pairs of rabbits on north wall of Chapelpark, No 16 Ewenfield Road, Ayr, South Ayrshire Chapelpark, a large Arts and Crafts style villa, was built in 1916 to designs by architects Henry Edward Clifford (1852-1932) and Thomas Melville Lunan (b.1878). It features a three stage tower, gables at the wall-head, low, sweeping eaves and decorative brickwork contrasting with harled walls. This shows two panels with bas-relief sculptured pairs of rabbits. They are shown against leafy backgrounds, and the naturalistic detail contrasts with the geometric patterns of the brickwork behind. The panels mark the division between a pair of tall windows which span two storeys. This house also has a panel with a similarly-modelled squirrel design, and further decorative abstract panels decorate the three-stage tower. The exterior features elements such as dormer and bay windows, and irregularly-edged brickwork dressings which add interest to the façade. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
