Scope and Content View of Palmerston House, No 42 Terregles Street, Dumfries, Dumfries & Galloway Palmerston House, a three-bayed, two-storeyed villa, was built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from red sandstone ashlar masonry and is set back from the road behind stone gate piers and a low garden wall. This shows the front of the house with its slightly projecting central bay. The front door with its traceried fanlight and lancet side windows is positioned under a flattened arch. The house has sash windows and a slated roof. The Gothic tracery and the subtly advanced centre bay form the focal point of the façade. The rest of the stonework and windows are of understated design, with simple window margins (surrounds) and projecting cills. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
