Scope and Content Great Hall, Hallyburton House, Kettins, Perth & Kinross Hallyburton House, built c.1680, was remodelled c.1886 by the Perth architect, Andrew Heiton, for Graham Menzies. The Great Hall, which dates from Heiton's reconstruction, was photographed in 1891 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The room, a reproduction of an Elizabethan hall, has a gallery at the far end, and a minstrel's gallery high up in the side wall. The chimneypiece is an antique dated 1609, although the stone of the surround is of the same date as the rest of the room. The Great Hall, typical in earlier 19th-century grand country houses, replaces the function of a main corridor, with the principal rooms opening off. It probably served no very particular function, being used as a sitting room or ballroom when required. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
