Scope and Content Drawing Room, Leithen Lodge, Innerleithen, Scottish Borders Leithen Lodge, built in the early 19th century in the steep valley of the Leithen Water, was remodelled in 1885-7 by the architect, Sydney Mitchell. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior c.1890. The drawing room is a classic white room, with a plasterwork ceiling in the style of Robert Adam. The carpet has a floral pattern, the chairs have floral covers, and the room has a strongly defined floral frieze. The door (centre) opens to the boudoir. Mitchell placed all the principal rooms on the first floor of the house to gain more light and views, and designed the boudoir, the private sitting room of the lady of the house, with independent access to the garden via a balcony and staircase.
