Copy of C 3292

Scope and Content View from north-east of south room on second floor, Nos 17-19 High Street, Inverness Nos 17-19 High Street were built in c.1845 and consist of a tenement block with modern shop fronts below. The block is built of ashlar masonry and features a bracketed balustrade and architraved windows to the first floor. This shows a room with its recessed windows flanked by wooden shutters. A panelled door is set close to a wooden fireplace with cast iron inner, decorated with relief panels. The paler wall area over the fire shows where an overmantel mirror once hung. This room retains many Victorian features including the fireplace, cornice and panelled door. The sash and case windows are insulated and protected by shutters that fold away into the window recesses during the day. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
