Scope and Content View from west-north-west of Grange House, No 22 York Road, Edinburgh Grange House was built c.1820, and is a two-storeyed Classical Italianate villa. The house has fine ashlar masonry at the front, and rubble sides and rear. The interior retains elaborate plasterwork ceilings and fireplaces. This shows the façade with its Roman Doric columns forming a porch. The balcony above between the advanced bays has decorative cast iron trelliswork. The pedimented bays have disc decorations on the eaves and arched lower windows. This grand villa would have housed a wealthy family in style and comfort. The simple façade with its fine stonework and Classical details is further emphasised by restrained decorative details within the house itself. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
