Scope and Content Anniesland Station, Glasgow This station is on the North British Railway's Stobcross Branch, opened in the 1870s as a freight-only route to the Stobcross (later Queen's) Dock, but linked into the city centre in 1886 by the opening of the Glasgow City & District Railway. This station was opened in that year as Great Western Road Station. This shows the station from the north-west, with the city-bound platform building on the left. Both buildings are of standard North British Railway timber and brick construction. The timber edging to the awnings was cut back when the line was electrified in 1960. These buildings were demolished in 1969 and replaced by modern structures, as the range of accommodation they contained was well in excess of modern requirements. The station name was changed to Anniesland at some time, probably in the 1920s or 1930s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
