Scope and Content Entrance to the Materia Medica and Physiology Department Building, University of Glasgow, University Avenue, Glasgow This photograph of one of the entrances to the Materia Medica and Physiology Department Building was taken in 1909 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The building was designed in 1907 by the Glasgow architect, James Miller. The building has Scottish Renaissance features which give a rather attractive effect, and an elaborate strapwork pediment over the entrance piers. The Materia Medica and Physiology Department Building included teaching facilities and laboratories for the study of pharmacology, forensic medicine and public health, as well as physiology. It was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales in April 1907. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
