Scope and Content Bedroom, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannanshire In 1900, the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior of Inglewood, home of the wealthy industrialist, A P Forrester Paton. This photograph of a bedroom in the house was taken then. The bedroom, with a swirling Art Nouveau frieze, is painted white. The bed has hangings in chintz which co-ordinate with the wallpaper and chair-covers. The built-in furniture has cabinets with stained glass, and a flat surface for use as a washstand. Built-in furniture was popular at the turn of the 20th century, particularly in bedrooms. Built-in units might include a chest of drawers, a closet for shoes, and a wardrobe, and cupboards might be punctuated by a few open shelves for ornaments. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
