Scope and Content Dining Room, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannanshire Inglewood was designed by Sydney Mitchell & Wilson for the wealthy industrialist, A P Forrester Paton, a member of the mill-owning Paton family. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior in 1900. The dining room is panelled in dark oak and has an inglenook fireplace. The walls are hung with oil paintings, and a silk-skirted electric lamp, counterbalanced with weights allowing it to be raised or lowered, hangs over the table. At the turn of the 20th century, the dining room was generally regarded as a 'heavy' room where sombre tones were appropriate. It was often designed in an old English style, oak-panelled, polished and furnished with dining table and sideboard. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
