Scope and Content Dining Room Inglenook, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannanshire Inglewood was built for the wealthy industrialist, A P Forrester Paton. The house was designed by the architects, Sydney Mitchell & Wilson, who commissioned the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, to photograph the interior in 1900. An inglenook was a recess for a hearth with provision for seating. This oak-panelled alcove is furnished with two oak settles which face each other across the fireplace. The walls have small shelves for bric-a brac, and lantern-style electric lights. The Patons were a long-established mill-owning family. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the family built three large mansions in Alloa, two of which were by Sydney Mitchell, and the third, built in 1912, was by a local architect, William Kerr.
