Scope and Content Staircase, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannanshire Inglewood, a house built on a grand scale, was designed in 1900 by the architects, Sydney Mitchell & Wilson, for the wealthy industrialist, A P Forrester Paton. The interior was photographed by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The main staircase, finished in oak, rises from an alcove off the Great Hall to a galleried landing on the first floor. The Jacobean-style ceiling is decorated with elaborate plaster pendants. In the 19th century the mill-owning Forrester Paton family were great patrons of Alloa, supporting the Temperance Movement and taking over the lairdship role that had been the prerogative of the Earls of Mar and Kellie in the 18th century.
