Scope and Content View from south-east of Seymour Lodge, No 259 Perth Road, Dundee Seymour Lodge was built in 1880 to designs by architects Charles & Leslie Ower. It is a striking Victorian Gothic building, covered in elaborate decorative features. Once a private house, it is now used as offices for Tayside Regional Council. This photograph shows the house in its elevated position above the road. The house has elaborately carved bargeboards, contrasting stonework stone-mullioned windows and panelled chimney-stacks. The roof slates are arranged in zigzag patterns. The layering of decorative features in various materials on this house is a fine example of the Victorian's love of ornamentation. The Gothic details, such as the arched windows and carved wooden bargeboards, refer back to medieval designs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
