Scope and Content Railway Engine Shed, Callander Station, Main Street, Callander, Stirling The first station in Callander was opened in 1858 by the Dunblane, Doune & Callander Railway. It was replaced by a new station when the first part of the Callander & Oban Railway was opened in 1870. This locomotive shed was probably built in about 1870. This shows the shed from the south-west. As can be seen it had been disconnected from the running line, behind it, for some time. It was a through shed, with two pairs of double doors at each end. It was probably built to accommodate locomotives for local passenger and goods trains. The section of the Callander & Oban Railway between Callander and Crianlarich was closed in 1965, and quickly lifted. The station, locomotive shed and the track to Dunblane were retained a little longer, but the track has been lifted and the station and locomotive shed have gone completely.
