Scope and Content Callander Station, Station Road, Callander, Stirling The first station in Callander was opened in 1858 by the Dunblane, Doune & Callander Railway. It was replaced by this station when the first part of the Callander & Oban Railway was opened in 1870. It may well have been extended subsequently. This shows the south-bound platform looking north-east. The building was designed for an extensive excursion traffic, and contains waiting and porters' rooms and lavatories, as well as ample covered waiting space. The wooden edging to the awning differs from that on the main building. The section of the Callander & Oban Railway between Callander and Crianlarich was closed in 1965, and quickly lifted. This station and the track to Dunblane were retained a little longer, but the track has been lifted and the station has gone completely. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
