Scope and Content Dining Room, Kildonan House, Barrhill, Ayrshire Kildonan House, built in 1914-23, was described as the 'last great country house in the Gothic tradition'. It was designed for Captain Euan Wallace, MP, who commissioned the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, in c.1927 to photograph the interior. This simple room, with its stone fireplace and oak-panelled doors, is furnished very much in the style of an English manor house. The paintings were part of Captain Wallace's extensive art collection. The house was designed on a huge scale by the Glasgow architect, James Miller, and, although it was ready for occupation in 1923, the interiors were never fully finished. Eventually the house became 'too big for its owner' and was put up for sale in 1930. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
