Scope and Content Kildonan House, Barrhill, Ayrshire, from the south-west Kildonan House, Barrhill, was built in 1914-23 by the Glasgow architect, James Miller, for Captain Euan Wallace MP. This photograph of the south front of the house was taken in c.1927 by the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The south front, with its interesting arrangement of mullioned windows, overlooks a terraced garden. The steeply pitched roofs, punctuated by tall chimneys, have a picturesque series of dormer windows, and gablets with swept eaves. Captain Euan Wallace inherited the Kildonan estate in 1913 from his grand-uncle on the condition that he make it his home. The house was ready for occupation in 1923, but it proved to be too big for its owner, and was eventually put up for sale in 1930. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
