Scope and Content View from east of North Kelvin Comprehensive Development Area (CDA), Area 'A', Glasgow These four point blocks (tall blocks of flats of square or oblong plan) were erected between 1967 and 1969 by the Scottish Special Housing Association. They were built using the French 'Tracoba' construction system of pre-fabricated units. This photograph shows the four blocks from Bardowie Street. They are banded with grey and white mosaic decoration, which serves to break up the design. The lifts that serve the blocks can be identified by the machinery blocks on top of each tower. Housing reformers and politicians criticised the run-down conditions found in 19th-century tenements. Huge developments like this were seen as the answer to Glasgow's housing problems and shortages especially between the 1950s and the 1970s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
