Scope and Content View from west of Hutchesontown/Part Gorbals Comprehensive Development Area (CDA), Area 'B', Glasgow This development was approved for construction in 1958, and built 1959-64. The architects were Robert Matthew Johnson-Marshall. It comprises four blocks of 18-storey flats, containing 308 flats in total, and several low-rise blocks. This photograph shows some of the three-storeyed flats with the larger 18-storeyed tower blocks behind them. The low-level blocks have decorative coloured panels below the windows, and the tower-block has balcony access to each individual flat. The flat roofs on these buildings are a typical design feature of the period they were built in. In recent times some of the remaining tower-blocks have been fitted with pitched roofs to help prevent the problems of leaking flat roofs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
