Scope and Content Saucel Distillery (Brewery), Saucel Street, Paisley, Renfrewshire This brewery appears to have been established between 1825 and 1860, and was possibly operated in association with the Saucel Distillery on the other side of King Street, which had been founded in the late 18th century, and which eventually absorbed the brewery site. This shows the King Street frontage of the brewery from the north-east. The buildings seen here were probably malt barns. By 1966 the surviving buildings of both the brewery and the distillery were being used as bonded warehouses by The Distillers' Co Ltd. This brewery probably used the Glasgow, Paisley & Johnstone Canal to bring in barley and to distribute its beer. The neighbouring distillery operated on a large scale until World War I, when it was acquired by The Distillers' Co Ltd, who ended production. The buildings have been demolished.
