Scope and Content View from south-south-east of Crathie Court, Crathie Drive, Glasgow Crathie Court was designed in 1946 and built between 1949 and 1952 by Dr Ronald Bradbury, director of housing for Glasgow Corporation. It was originally designed as an experiment in high-rise housing, after suggestions from the Scottish Office in 1945. This photograph shows the block from the south-south-east. It has a U plan design, and varies between six and eight storeys high. The block mixes materials and varying height levels to add variety and interest to the structure. The block was originally designed as part of Glasgow Corporation Housing Committee's programme of hostels for single women. There are 88 individual flats with balcony access, and stair towers on the right and left. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
