Scope and Content Govan Pier, Glasgow This pier was built for the Clyde Navigation Trust in about 1885, and was used by Clyde excursion steamers plying between the Broomielaw and destinations down the river. There were similar piers at Partick and Renfrew. This shows the pier from the north, with its timber-clad offices and waiting rooms. The wood-piled construction of the pier itself was typical of such structures. To the left is one of the small passenger ferries operated by the Clyde Navigation Trust, which used this as a base. It is likely that this pier was not used after the 1930s. It was probably retained as a base for the small ferries. After the last of these was withdrawn in the mid-1970s the pier was dismantled.
