Scope and Content West Station, Dundee This station was built in 1888-9 by the Caledonian Railway as the terminus of its services from Edinburgh and Glasgow via Perth. It was designed by James Barr of Perth and was intended to outshine the North British Railway's nearby Tay Bridge Station. This shows the ridge and furrow roof of the station in the middle distance, with the Tay Road Bridge behind. The clock tower on the front of the station can also just be seen. The station was much grander than the North British Railway's one. The station was a victim of the Beeching cuts of the mid-1960s. When the ex-Caledonian line to Aberdeen via Forfar was abandoned in 1967 and all trains to Aberdeen were diverted via Dundee, this station was closed, and was quickly demolished.
