Tradition has it that together with the standing stone Clach na Carraig it marks the grave of the Irish hero Diarmid. The third monument is a stone circle. This is a view of the cairn during excavation. The kerb of granite boulders can be clearly seen. The cairn was excavated in 1967. A small amount of cremated bone was recovered along with some quartz pebbles from around the kerb. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
