Scope and Content Partick Foundry, No 83 Castlebank Street, Glasgow This foundry was established in about 1864, on a site which had previously been occupied by a calico-printing works, and before that by the summer palace of the bishops of Glasgow. The fabric of the foundry incorporated buildings from the printworks, and probably stones from the palace. This shows the river side of the moulding shop, with its masonry base. The brick upper works were probably added early in the 20th century. Note the louvred roof-ridge ventilator used to disperse the fumes given off as iron was poured into moulds. The foundry, latterly owned by Robert Duncan & Co (Partick Foundry) Ltd, had recently closed in 1964, and the buildings were disused. The moulding shop was demolished in 1965, and the site used as a scrapyard, a function it is still performing in 2002. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
