Scope and Content Partick Foundry, No 83 Castlebank Street, Glasgow This foundry was established in about 1864, on a site which had previously been occupied by a calico-printing works, and before that by the summer palace of the bishops of Glasgow. The fabric of the foundry incorporated buildings from the printworks, and probably stones from the palace. This shows the building at the entrance to the foundry, which was probably part of the earlier calico-printing works. It had a circular stair-tower at the rear. One would not normally have built such a building as part of a foundry. The foundry, latterly owned by Robert Duncan & Co (Partick Foundry) Ltd, had recently closed in 1964, and the buildings were disused. The moulding shop was demolished in 1965, and the site used as a scrapyard, a function it is still performing in 2002. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
